Active Learning - in an Online Environment

Metacognition as Active Learning
Objectives

Upon completion of this module, participants will be able to:

  1. Differentiate between novice learners and expert learners based on demonstrations of their metacognitive processes
  2. Construct questions and activities designed to assist students in developing their metacognitive processes

Overview

Metacognition involves being aware of your thought processes, monitoring those thought processes and evaluating whether those processes have helped you reach your goals or need to be revised.

Expressed more simply, your path for most effective learning is through knowing:

  • yourself
  • your capacity to learn
  • the process you have successfully used in the past
  • your interest in, and knowledge of, the subject you wish to learn.
